Belle Starr Recreation Area, a Corps of Engineers campground, is a great stop when traveling in OK. The spaces are large and shaded. Most have water and electricity hookups. But the selling point is the great lake views! This is a massive lake and all three sections have great spots on or near the water. Several small beaches are perfect for sitting or getting in the water. With its size, there are actual waves so you have the sounds of the ocean when you sit on the beach. There is a boat dock and several coves for fishing.
We stayed in the West section where we were treated to lovely sunsets over the lake. The camp was full last weekend with weekenders. On Sunday, it cleared out so that we had the West section nearly to ourselves. Until the weekend, we had more than six empty spaces on either side of us so plenty of room.
The camp has a 4 p.m. check out so you can enjoy time on the lake on your last day, too. We are now heading to Mountain Harbor Resort in Mount Ida, AR. Fingers crossed that the fall color is still on the trees.
