Two KOA campgrounds that we have found to be very nice are New Bern KOA in New Bern, NC and Asheville East KOA in Asheville, NC. New Bern is a town rich in history. The campground is situated on the Neuse River and you can fish or kayak . I would encourage you to take the trolly tour of historic New Bern and definitely stop for ice cream at the Cow Cafe . The tour is one of the best I’ve taken. Asheville is home to the famous Biltmore House and of course the gorgeous NC mountains. The campground has a well stocked pond for fishing. You won’t be disappointed in either of these towns.
Love both of those places. I’m in Mount Airy. Check out Mayberry Campground. It’s locally owned and operated by very nice people. It isn’t a destination campground in that there is no pool, there is a playground for the kids and a expansion of campsites last year. The main draw is Andy Griffiths home town. Check it out.
Mt Airy is actually our first planned spring trip. We are looking at Mayberry or maybe Jamokee.
Oh, I am definitely following this. We are reviewing campgrounds near Brevard, just south of Asheville for a potential meet-up. I will need space for about 25-30 rigs. Any suggestions are welcome!
We toured Mama Gertie’s while in Asheville. It was great but my husband took one look at the hills and decided he’d rather stay on flat ground. I’ve heard really good things about it.
