Day 4 and we are talking about traveling solo. Here are my top tips:
Take driving lessons and maintain your rig.
While you probably don’t have a 40ft rig or something, you still need to learn how to drive your RV in all situations. Especially because you won’t have someone to take over for you when the anxiety sets in after a long travel day. (For tips on anxiety management while traveling, click here!)
I always recommend hiring a professional, and for you solo travelers, I make no exception. You cannot rely on other campers. That can end in disaster. Only you know the way your rig works.
You also need to learn to maintain your rig. You’re out there alone and you need everything to be running tip-top, baby!
Expect the unexpected
This is RVing. Let’s be real: shit is gonna go down.
And as a solo RVer, you’ve got to anticipate these showdowns between you and the nomad universe.
- Have photocopies and digital files of your important documents. Give them to a friend or family member you trust. Put them in the cloud.
- Get the most amazing First Aid Kit possible! Emergencies happen. If you’re alone, you want to be able to bandage yourself up (et cetera!) before things get crazy.
3. Don’t forget to make friends.
- Establish a routine. Go to the same coffee shop each morning. Join a nationwide gym you can go to.
- Join travel groups.
- Join a caravan.
- Make an effort to call friends or chat online when you can.
