Before I started this blog, I would spend hours and hours each day looking up inspiring true life stories about people living the full-time travel dream. I will never forget when I stumbled across my first “full-time family” and the incredible clarity and excitement that formed upon discovering this lifestyle.

A few nights before we bought Dixie, I remember staying up until 3am watching YouTube videos and reading blog post after blog post about how others had made their dreams of traveling come true. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of this until just now! It was like the veil had been lifted from my eyes and suddenly the world made sense.

(I know, layin’ it on thick, but it’s all true!)

So what inspiring true life stories was I reading? Here’s a list of my favorites.

Johnny Ward

Johnny is the brains behind He’s just a normal guy from Ireland that decided a regular job wasn’t for him. Instead, he came up with a way to travel the world without ever having a normal job. Wow!

Here’s a direct quote from his site about how he started traveling.

“So I taught English in Asia, saved, traveled, ran out of money, back to teaching, saving, travel. Rinse. Repeat. I managed to travel for around 2 years throughout Asia on a budget around $10-$15  a day, but soon my bank account was empty once more. English camps in South Korea helped extend my travels, but I was 26 years old, starting to worry about my future, and with online business dreams rumbling around my brain, I headed to Australia to work and save. was born during those 12 months of lost hours spent in an office. Never again. Life wasn’t meant to be lived in an office, working 5/7 days, asking bosses for permission to go on holiday. No thanks. So I booked a one-way ticket to Zimbabwe, Africa and took blogging more seriously now more than 190 countries later I don’t need to ‘work’ for anyone anymore.”

Okay Johhny, I’m ready to start traveling the world!

Less Junk More Journey

So, if you are a wannabe traveler and you haven’t heard of this family, you really need to figure out how Google works.

When Ed and I were going back and forth on whether or not to even buy an RV I started on Google. I wanted to see if anyone actually lived like this. That’s when I found the VERY inspiring true life stories of Nathan, Marissa, and Hensley!

Man, I love this trio! A family of 3 (sound familiar?) traveling the United States after realizing their daughter (and the time spent with her) was more important than ANYTHING. They sold everything to truly be together.

Does it really get any more beautiful and inspiring than that?

I love watching their videos and seeing all their adventures. They make RVing seem fun and meaningful. The way they open up their lives to anyone and everyone is so inspirational. Nate and Marissa share in hopes to educate and inspire. I just think that is so incredible.

They’re very RV-famous for their videos, but their blog isn’t to be ignored either. Here’s a quote from them about why they RV.

“Why Not RV?…Why not create family memories? Why not travel? Why not live on less so you can actually “LIVE” for more. I know this lifestyle seems scary and crazy. I get it. I had those same though and fears, but what it came down to for us was, WHY Not? If we hate this lifestyle and it is not all that we had hoped for, we could always just go back to the lifestyle we had before this idea. That thought helped us face our fears and we decided, Why Not?”

Marissa, I am sooo with you!

Crazy Family Adventure

So if the name alone doesn’t grab you, the personality in this family will! Crazy Family Adventure is a family of 6 (and 2 dogs) that have been on the road for years! I had the pleasure of meeting this amazing crew in February when I attended the RVE Summit.

I loved how this family seemed so comfortable and eager to share anything and everything they had learned from the road. Bryanna gave a talk about how to “embrace the weird” and just go towards what you want. She shared how her husband went from a full-time university position, to working from home (well, on the road haha), to part-time, to quitting! He quit and it was up to Bryanna to build up her online Virtual Assistance business to keep the family full-timing.

Seriously, what situation could be more motivating?

She also shared her family’s story on their recent downsize from a 39′ motorhome to a 23′ Class C Winnebago. I could not have been more inspired and pumped up!

I was so blessed to hear all the inspiring true life stories from this amazing family and I can’t wait to see what’s next for them!

Tomorrow Somewhere New

Okay y’all. Now this video is the motherload for inspiration, ya hear me? Watch it and you might just quit your day job tomorrow.

In fact, this is the inspiring true life story that got Less Junk More Journey on the road. It’s an amazing video showing them “launching into an exploration and rediscovery of America, not in search of a place to settle, but rather creating a new kind of home out of wandering.”

  1. I have a Class C… the lady and I travel during work breaks and summer. I drive a school bus…thus time off. I still enjoy having my home base and I’m blessed to have adult children that move in when Mom gets road fever..

    1. Love the class C! It is my dream to have one. What a blessing to have a job where you have time off to travel each year.
