Debra is a full-time RVer who has traveled coast to coast looking for the cutest bookstores and the perfect cup of chai. She and her husband enjoy creating community on the road by meeting up with friends or finding new ones enroute. They love sharing their adventures and making friends here at The Virtual Campground and sharing Barry’s great photography.
Every week brings a new adventure and a new focus as we move around the country. Sometimes I find something on our travels that helps me so much that I want to share it. Sometimes something old becomes new or at least, newly appreciated. And of course, there is are always books to read and things to see. Here are my little helpers for this week, July 8 – 13, 2024.
Things I am Enjoying
Salads
We are eating a lot of salads this week as the temperatures increase and our waists need to decrease! We found Susie Q’s Fish Market while in Two Rivers, WI and are enjoying their many flavors of their smoked salmon. My theory on salads is add more ingredients, then I don’t need as much dressing. The salmon adds a great protein source, while blueberries are a great complement. This plus some seeds and artichoke hearts and I have a filling, tasty dish that is quickly put together!
Outdoor Foot Rest
Nearly all camp chairs hit my thighs at the wrong spot and make my legs numb. This ottoman saves the day. I have had it for quite a while, but recently suggested it to a friend. I love paisley so got one in that pattern. She got this flower power pouf that goes well with her outdoor decor. And best feature – it is inflatable which means it packs down nicely for us nomads!
Slippers
I am having knee and hip issues so a physical therapist told me to stop going barefoot. Apparently it is making my arches fall and causing pain. We try to take our shoes off before entering the the living space of the rig to not track in dirt. My answer was to get a new pair of indoor only slippers with arch support. I read up on the various brands and Vionic got high reviews. They are cozy and are giving me great support. I got the ones in pink!
Books, this week
Books and bookstores are large part of my week. I love audio books since I can do other things while listening like exercising. I am doing physical therapy exercises for my hip and that gets boring to do x number of reps two or three times of small movements. The book helps the time pass and keeps my mind off the effort. This week, I enjoyed Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club which seemed a perfect ending to our Wisconsin trip learning about supper clubs. And The Change by Kirsten Miller was a fun revenge tale that all women of a certain age will enjoy considering. Described as Big Little Lies meets The Witches of Eastwick, it was a great remedy to some of the news stories.
I am a big Jane Austen fan and enjoy many of novels inspired by her works. One series is a mystery starring the son of Darcy and Elizabeth along with the daughter of Catherine Tilney nee Morland of Northanger Abbey. Written by Claudia Gray, I was excited to see the third in the series starred Lady de Bourgh. The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh was a little disappointing in the action, but I enjoyed revisiting the Rosing Park characters from Pride and Prejudice.
Now, I need to find a good book set in Vermont!
Best Picture of My Week
I saw this on the campus of Notre Dame near the Grotto, which was a blessing in itself. I loved how the one blue flower popped up amid a sea of white that bordered the area. Reminding us to rise up among the sameness to stand out!
Let me know in the comments what you are finding this week make your days easier or happier. I would love to know.
