Three Things I Learned From a Rainy Day in the RV

December 1, 2016 By Liz 1 Comment

This week we had a really bad thunderstorm which led to my first experience of rain as an RVer. Here are three things I learned from a rainy day in the RV.

  1. It is loud, but not overwhelmingly loud. Like you could have guessed, the rain pounding on and across the RV was loud. There were parts of the storm that made it sound like I was inside the cloud. Most of the time though, it really wasn’t too loud. I was able to hear the videos I was watching on my laptop with ease. To hear exactly what it sounded like, watch my Youtube video I made during the storm.
  2. You don’t have to go outside to have fun. A huge incentive of the RV lifestyle is that you get to be outdoors all the time. Imagine a life where fresh air is never more than a second away and a bird’s beautiful song is always within earshot. Sounds absolutely fantastic, right? Well it is, but what about when it rains? During the storm, Chelsea and I were stuck indoors but it actually turned out to be a lot of fun. When I was living in a house, I would have just turned on the TV during the rain and chalked the day up as a loss. Not this time. Because we spend more than 90% of our free time outdoors, Chelsea saw novelty in staying inside before nap time. She played with every single one of her toys (not that the number is high but still) and we got a really great game of “chase mommy around the kitchen island” going. We pet the dog a ton and played hide and seek. Honestly, I think I had more fun than she did.

  3. You might find a leak. Although we have only been living in the RV for a few months, it is pretty much RV101 to always be checking for water damage. Water damage can break you as an RV owner and during a storm, you should definitely be checking your nooks and crannies.Have you ever read When You Give a Mouse a Cookie? Well, I feel like I am at the beginning of When You Check Your RV for Leaks right now. During the storm, we found a small crack in the skylight of the shower. It was leaking very slowly but very surely into the rig. So, like the cause and effect story goes, when you check your RV for leaks, you’re going to find water dripping. When you find water dripping, you are gonna have to fix it…

In case you missed it at the beginning of the post, here is the link to my YouTube video of our first rainy day in the RV. Be sure to like, comment, and subscribe to my channel so I know you want more videos.
