TOP TIPS TO CREATE AN OUTDOOR OASIS

September 30, 2022 By Debra Benton Leave a Comment

When you  live, work and travel in your RV, leveraging your outdoor space makes sense.  Not only does it create an outdoor camping oasis, it gives you extra living space, very important when the people you live with seem a bit too close! This area can be so much more than just a campfire site,, even for weekend campers! Outdoor offices, reading rooms, social gathering space, kitchens, hobby areas add so much to the RV experience. And since you will be using it for more than just campfires, why not make it an extension of your home and make it your own.

Here are a few great ideas to zhuzh (today’s word of day picked up in Michigan- meaning to make it more attractive or interesting) up your camping oasis:

Whether by the beach or in the forest, tablecloths set your space!

#1 COVER THE TABLE. The picnic table is the heart of any outdoor space but often lacks in beauty! While you can cover it with just about anything, we love the LITOCLOTH, created by our favorite outdoor luxury camping brand, LITO: LUXURY IN THE OUTDOORS! The LITO tablecloths are made  of oil cloth and are designed to fit nearly every table size. Not only are they wipeable and durable, they are so stylish and pretty. Pick your favorite pattern and transform the heart of your campsite into a clean, beautiful space. Plus, LITOCLOTH comes with a backpack for easy storage and, most importantly, straps to secure it to the table for those windy days.

#2 AND THERE WAS LIGHT!  Solar lanterns are an adorable way to add ambiance to your space and provide necessary light on your table. We also add solar lights to our outdoor planters, positioned by the door to easily see at night.   String lights hung in nearby trees or along the awning add a festive atmosphere and great light in evenings.  Life is short, let it feel celebratory every day!

#3 USE NICE DRINKWARE. What you drink out of matters!  Paper and plastic just don’t cut it when it comes to drinking your favorite beverage, whether it be coffee, iced tea or a cocktail. Spend an extra few dollars on nice drinkware to level up daily life. We love the LITO stainless wine tumblers because they are reasonably priced, great quality, and keep drinks at the correct temperature for hours. Plus, they come in cool colors that also happen to match their tablecloths so why not!. We especially also like that their tops are leak-proof (too many accidents have proven that is necessary) and the tumblers fit nicely in our hands – they aren’t too big and bulky.

Taking a break

#4 PLUS NICE TABLEWARE TOO! Why mess with paper when there are so many adorable choices AND it is better for the earth? I mean, honestly, unless you are boondocking for weeks, a little dish washing is not going to hurt. And you will feel so much better as you gather around the table when you have a design or color that makes you smile. It doesn’t have to be camping themed, but something that you like. You could even pick them up on your travels as a great souvenir!

#5 LAY DOWN AN OUTDOOR RUG  Maybe I should have put this first since it goes down first! Putting a rug outside your RV door is a lovely addition tand so useful. The waterproof rugs keep the dirt out of your RV and ensure you can easily maneuver over the rocks and dirt.  For those of us who want to really create an ambiance, choose a color that matches your tablecloth and tumblers. Make sure it is easy to roll or fold up too!

#6 ADD SMALL TOUCHES There’s something about woven baskets that add warmth to an environment and keep essentials handy. These are especially handy since they include a cover. Mason jars keep pens handy or add color with flowers. A colorful planter can hold herbs or be used to keep paper towels, bug spray and other essentials within reach. This adorable wooden basket can hold many essentials including napkins and dinnerware when you dine al fresco, plus it doubles as a small picnic table.

Even when boondocking, a rug defines the space.

#7 SEATING IS NOT OPTIONAL. As long as you are spending time outside, you will want to sit comfortably. Our favorite chairs have a rocking motion, but we see a lot of cushioned chairs in camp too. You might like to add an ottoman for your feet if you are shorter like me. You might also consider cushions for the picnic table or your chairs to add color and comfort.

#8 A WHOLE ROOM. Pop up tents are very popular with folks as an actual extra room to use as an office or as a barrier from bugs.  These give you even more opportunities to personalize and make it cozy. You can use as a get away space, add some chairs and tables or put your exercise tools in there to give you “privacy.” Well, as much as you can with see through walls!

It’s the little things is life that matter.  Adding a little luxury helps you enjoy the great outdoors more often and become the envy of the campground..
