Fix It Yourself: RV Maintenance Tips so you can Stop Wasting Money at the Dealer

July 13, 2019 By Liz 4 Comments

Welcome to Day 6 of our Two Weeks of Travel Tweaks! If you don’t watch or read any of these tips, this is the one that will save you the most money and make life easier for you out there!

It’s also the most labor intensive, so the thing most people overlook or simply don’t do!

Don’t skip your preventative maintenance!

I don’t know how many times I’ve got say it, folks. 😉

Most RVs will keep-a-tickin’ if you get yourself a checklist and stick to a plan to go over your rig routinely.

  • maintain seals
  • drain water heater
  • exercise your generator
  • clean your AC filters
  • etc

Get the right tools for your RV

You don’t need a lot. And the tools are mostly simple and small. But they’ll save your butt when the time comes.

Educate Yourself

Ignorance is bliss….til your shit breaks on the side of the road. Or 4th of July weekend boondocking in God’s country.

Read up your systems. Go through your owner’s manual. Look at the repair records of your used RV.

And never completely rule out paying a little extra dough to get information you know is 100% solid. My husband is an RV tech and has told me some real “shake your head” stories of fixing people’s rigs after they watching something on YouTube and broke their rig. (Yeah, you read that right.)
