Ah! Traveling is too stressful! You can do it when you’re older. Why are you taking another vacation? Can you really afford that? You’re so lazy. Why don’t you get a real job and work a traditional job like the rest of us?
Yes! These are all things people have said to me! YIKES! Talk about getting into your head.
And it’s true. Even in college, I took a lot of “vacations” and instead of working a job where I clocked in, I took gigs off Craigslist, tutored a lot, and delivered food from a local restaurant. All so I could have more time to myself and to do the things I wanted to do.
And if I would have listened to all those people… let their little questions seep into my noggin and mess with my mindset and values, I wouldn’t be typing this up right now. I’d be making lesson plans for my classroom or working on my PhD and gearing up to start my own school somewhere.
But I kept my mind strong and listened to what I really wanted…and not those people. Mindset is EVERYTHING when it comes to getting what you want. And if you want to travel, conquering your mindset is the first step to seeing it all.
Here are some mindset shifts you can make to make your travel dreams come true:
Learn your limiting beliefs
We all have them. Those little beliefs in our subconscious that are holding us back. All those things people say to us, we take them to our subconscous to keep us safe. But the truth is, the subconsouc usually acts out of fear and believes things that aren’t really true.
- You have to retire to travel.
- Traveling is selfish. Get back to work and take limited vacations. You should spend your time doing more productive things for others.
These are some common limiting beliefs. Sound familiar?
But you have to ask yourself this…
Are you more committed to this belief or to your desire to travel?
If you’re saying yes to travel and ready to take action, then you can change your belief. You can create a new one!
- I can travel as much as I want at any age or income level.
- Traveling isn’t selfish. Traveling in itself is productive and important to my self growth and care.
Choose to believe this new thought over and over again. It will serve you well in taking action on your desires!
Do a brain dump
Imagine what your life is like with no limitations. Don’t think about money, responsibilities, etc. Just think about your ideal way of travel.
Is it full-time? International? In an RV or through airbnbs? There are no wrong answers. Just write!
Create a vision board
When you’re done with your brain dump, create a vision board from it. Put all the things you want in your life on it.
- Pictures of destinations
- Your ideal RV
- Your dream job
- Happy family photo
Whether you do this on the computer or on paper, it doesn’t matter. Just make sure you put it somewhere you can see it often.
I personally have one as my screen for my laptop. I also have one hanging on the back of my closet door. I see them both frequently and it helps me stay on top of my goals and moving towards what I want out of life.
